Many a villa garden on Lake Constance is more generously proportioned than the Werd monastery island between the Rhine and Lake Constance. But its few square meters are full of history and stories. Today, only six people still live there. Their 'Franciscan Convent' is the only house on the island. Nevertheless, life rages in the summer. For the island is located off Stein am Rhein and not far from Schaffhausen in one of the most popular vacation areas in Europe. In the midst of the lively hustle and bustle, the monks are looking for peace and quiet. Their vows also demand a lot of them: poverty and independence. But if their convent has its way, they will soon have to leave again. So how do you live in an idyll without being allowed to feel at home?
